What are the responsibilities and job description for the Secretary/Stockroom Clerk (Casual) position at Calumet County?
Under general direction performs responsible office work in various departments as appropriate and as assigned by the Department of Administration – Human Resources Division. Performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides clerical assistance to County department(s); the primary work assignment will be in the Highway Department office and stockroom
Prepares documents and correspondence in accordance with instructions including, but not limited to: reports, letters, memos, forms, agendas, and minutes
Keeps a variety of records, which may include bookkeeping accounts
Performs data entry and verification, including but not limited to payroll data entry, work order entry, charging out repair parts and supplies
Organizes and maintains file systems and file correspondence and other records.Answers and screens telephone calls. Greets visitors and directs to appropriate area or person.
Responds to requests for information in response to telephone or in-person inquiries from clients, co-workers and the public. Provides resource information and referral sources.
Requisitions supplies and assists with shipping and receiving
Sorts and distributes mail and correspondence
Makes copies of correspondence or other printed materials
Performs daily and regular duties in support of the Office Coordinator such as in the absence of the Office Coordinator
Provides general administrative and project support to Highway Department management staff
Assists with duties in the stockroom, including but not limited to organizing the parts room, stocking shelves, and maintaining the parts room to insure a safe and orderly work area
Assists working at the parts counter to provide parts and supplies to Highway Maintenance Workers and Foremen
Assists in performance of weekly/monthly/yearly inventory checks

Completion of high school, including or supplemented by commercial subjects; one or more years responsible office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the County.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
