Associate for Pastoral Counseling
Calvary Church Lancaster, PA
Title: Associate For Pastoral Counseling
Status: Part-time, 6 hours per week, non-exempt, hourly, ministry staff
Purpose: To provide pastoral counseling and pastoral care primarily to women and children to help them take next steps to Pursue Life in Christ.
Working Relationship: Accountable to the Board of Elders through the Senior Pastor with direct supervision for her ministry area by the Pastor of Counseling and Family Ministries. A member of Ministry Staff and appropriate ministry teams as assigned (e.g. Pastoral Care Team).
Qualification:
- Educational qualifications require advanced degree (master’s degree in biblical or pastoral counseling or related field), preferably seminary or Bible college background, with local church ministry experience, and preferably a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Social Worker in the state of PA.
- A thorough knowledge of Scripture and its relevance and application to pastoral counseling issues
- Gifts and temperament suited for pastoral care, pastor/teacher, compassion, wisdom
- Competency in Pastoral Care and Pastoral Counseling functions
- An understanding of the distinction between secular psychology and pastoral counseling with the ability to utilize insights from psychology within a clearly biblically driven framework
- An ability to be a team-player within the staff
- Protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality. Demonstrate a high level of trustworthiness.

Responsibilities
One Sentence Job Description
Provide pastoral counseling (primarily for women and children), and participate in the Pastoral Care Team.
Pastoral Counseling Ministry
- To provide pastoral counseling in cooperation with the Pastor of Counseling and Family Ministries, developing a shepherding relationship with individuals in the context of the pastoral counseling sessions that reflect the love, grace and truth of Jesus Christ
- Assist people in applying relevant biblical truth to their life situation
- Encourage and assist people in developing a deeper relationship with Christ and His people
- Provide reports and updates regarding pastoral counseling as requested by the Pastor of Counseling and Family Ministries
- To provide assessment, evaluation and referral of counseling cases to ministries within and/or professionals in or outside the church
- Provide emergency and crisis counseling as needed.
- Partner with the Pastor of Counseling and Family Ministries to teach and train people to care for one another in the body of Christ
- Assist as requested in the training of mentors and support group leaders and provide consultation to them
Pastoral Care
- To serve on the pastoral care ministries team
- To assist the pastoral care and ministry staff teams in shepherding the congregation with a special attention to women and children, addressing their goals, struggles and needs
- Be available for emergency pastoral care or pastoral counseling on Sunday mornings as arranged with the Pastor of Counseling and Family Ministries
General Ministry Staff Responsibilities
- Strive to uphold the Staff Commitment
- Collaborate with the Pastoral Care Team in developing goals, budgets, reports and evaluations as requested by Supervisor, Senior Pastor or Elders
- Stay current in counseling and biblical skills through professional development
- Be involved and invested in appropriate staff meetings and staff events
- Develop and maintain job procedures
- Be an active participant of Calvary Church’s corporate worship service.
- Pray for the ministry of Calvary Church
Work Schedule and Time Allotment
Work schedule: part-time, 6 hours per week, flexible
Sunday responsibilities are on call
To be managed and accounted for in cooperation with designated supervisor.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Light physical work requirements (lifting 10-20 lbs.), sitting, prolonged standing, potential reaching, climbing, prolonged positioning under hot bright lights, occasionally outside in differing weather conditions and prolonged looking at monitors and computer screens and operating a mouse and keyboard.
Creative thinking, conceptual, collaborative, and listening skills. Must be able to present ideas and allow for adoption, adaptation or elimination of those ideas.
