The Cambridge Office for Tourism is responsible for all destination marketing, public relations, and visitor services for Cambridge, Massachusetts. The office has served as the central hub for tourism marketing and visitor information for the City of Cambridge for over 25 years. We are a 501c(6) non-profit organization funded primarily through grants from the City of Cambridge, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, and Cambridge hotel rooms assessments through the Tourism Destination Marketing District legislation. We enrich the City of Cambridge by promoting its many special attractions and cultural amenities to residents, students, leisure travelers and business/meeting planners both nationally and internationally in order to create a stable and consistent positive economic impact on the City of Cambridge. The office is also responsible for the operation of our Visitor Information Center located in the heart of Harvard Square.


Job Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated, energetic, and detail oriented person to provide ongoing support to office staff through marketing and administrative tasks.


Duties/Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Leisure Destination Services Manager and Interim Executive Director this position will work on projects related to marketing Cambridge as a destination by communicating our brand’s message, researching local partners and creating content to promote the city. Duties include a mix of administrative and clerical tasks, with a focus on marketing & communication responsibilities.


Potential Tasks

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about assisting with strategy, content, scheduling and analysis of digital content within multiple platforms facing multiple audiences (Facebook, Instagram, X, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Website, Blog, etc.). This may include more backend behind the scenes work vs. front end content creation.
  • Assistance in our Visitor Center to stock brochures, cover breaks and/or shifts if necessary, etc. This may include working outside the standard office hours of 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. 
  • Research, collection, editing and posting of new business listings and calendar events on our website.
  • Continue to update and gather contact information for Cambridge hotels, attractions, and restaurants to ensure databases are current.
  • Work to help drive growth for our email database.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Friendly, enthusiastic, naturally curious and flexible
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Passionate about travel and tourism, with an interest in sharing your excitement about Cambridge with the world
  • Motivated to work independently
  • A recent graduate or upperclassman majoring in PR, marketing, communications, graphic design, hospitality or another relevant field of study
  • A strong understanding of marketing strategies, especially in terms of social media and the web
  • The foresight to prioritize tasks and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to commit to at least three months of internship through August 29


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
