Overview of Cambridge Public Schools:

The Role:
Reporting to the Director of Safety, who oversees a department of approximately 10 safety specialists, the Manager of School Safety and Climate will be responsible for supporting school leaders as well as other instructional and clinical personnel throughout CPS to ensure best practices are employed with respect to student conduct including both disciplinary and restorative practices. With a particular point of emphasis supporting the district’s flagship institution, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, the Manager of School Safety and Climate will support the full integration of supports from both building-level personnel as well as the district’s Office of Student Support, specifically the Division of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
The Manager of School Safety and Climate will support the Directors of Safety as well SEL in coordinating and leveraging resources from across to provide effective responses to student conduct challenges that provide meaningful engagement and affords opportunities for effectives therapeutic support as deemed appropriate by instructional support staff.
The Manager of School Safety and Climate will deploy as necessary to support school communities with respect to physical safety in similar fashion to safety specialists within the district’s Safety Department.
The Manager of School Safety and Climate, at the discretion of the Director, will be responsible for maintaining the district’s critical incident log and related documentation of incidents involving the deployment of schools' critical response teams.
The Manager of School Safety and Climate will also be responsible for advising school administrators are statutory and regulatory parameters concerning student discipline, including by not limited to 603 CMR 53.00, M.G.L. c. 71, § 37H¾, M.G.L. c. 71, § 37H-½, and M.G.L. c. 71, § 37H.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide additional support to members of the CPS Safety Department at the direction of the Director of Safety.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of a district level crisis response planning teams.
- Liaison as appropriate and under the supervision of the director of local public safety agencies, including the Cambridge Police Department.
- Coordinate with district administrators around best practices for student discipline and restorative justice programs.
- Participates in training programs pertaining to matters of safety and security for school and district personnel.
- Supports the Director in the communication with other school systems on matters related to school safety.
- Provides support to the Director as liaison to the court system and District Attorney’s Office.
- Other duties as directed by the Director or Chief Operating Officer for the district.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years experience working with youth and/or educational programs.
- Experience working with and supporting high-need and most vulnerable populations of children.
- Familiarity with statutes and regulations governing student discipline and court-involved youth.
- Background in a relevant field including education, counseling, management, or public safety preferred.
- Previous leadership experience in an educational, public safety or other governmental organization, including human services and youth programs.
- Strong verbal, writing and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand competing points of view.
Terms of Employment: 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Start date summer 2024.
Salary: $109,613 annually
