Job Overview
The Cambridge Yacht Club is seeking a passionate, experienced, and dynamic individual to join our team as the Head Sailing Instructor for the 2025 season. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club's summer sailing camp, ensuring students of varying ages (8-16) and skill levels have a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience on the water. The ideal candidate will have extensive sailing experience, a strong understanding of teaching and coaching principles, and excellent communication skills to engage with both students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Develop and manage a comprehensive sailing curriculum for sailors of all ages and skill levels, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
- Staff Management: Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise a team of sailing instructors. Ensure instructors adhere to safety standards, club protocols, and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Instruction: Lead sailing lessons, clinics, and training sessions. Provide on-the-water instruction, ensuring that lessons are structured, engaging, and cater to the needs of individual students.
- Safety and Risk Management: Maintain a safe and organized environment on and off the water. Implement safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and ensure all sailing activities comply with safety regulations. Oversee boat maintenance, inventory, and equipment inspections.
- Program Administration: Oversee the scheduling and logistics of sailing camp and attendance of age-appropriate regattas. Manage enrollment, student communication, and progress tracking. Maintain accurate records of participant performance and incident reports.
- Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for parents, students, and members regarding sailing programs. Provide exceptional customer service, responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and fostering a positive and welcoming environment at the club.
- Collaborative Efforts: Work closely with CYC management, Flag Officers, and other staff to ensure seamless communication, program integration, and alignment with club goals.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of sailing experience, including significant experience as an instructor, coach, or sailing program manager. Prior experience in managing teams and sailing programs is highly preferred.
- Certifications: CPR certification and US Sailing Level 2 Instructor certification or equivalent required. Additional certifications, such as US Sailing Level 3 Instructor, US Sailing Instructor Trainer, First Aid, or lifeguard certifications, are a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of sailing techniques, safety procedures, and boat maintenance.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
- Personal Qualities:
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and passionate about teaching sailing.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think on your feet.

Compensation and Timing:
