What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Department Technician -- Emergency Department -- Memorial Hospital position at CAMC Health System?
The ED techs are licensed paramedics who are expert critical thinkers who are familiar with emergency medicine. They can be utilized in the waiting room to collect vital signs and monitor patients for a change in condition. They will also be able to assist the RNs with critical patients and also help with flow by transporting patients out of the emergency department.
Responsibilities
The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) may render basic first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation services, and:
1.Obtain and document vital signs and report changes in patient condition to the emergency department nurse, or triage nurse
2.Obtain orthostatic vital signs
3.Patient transport depending on patient condition.
4.Insert peripheral IV, may collect blood sample with IV insertion
5.Specimen collection- including but not limited to urine, sputum and nasopharyngeal swabs
6.IV catheter removal
7.Perform respiratory assistance utilizing oral and nasal airways, ventilation devices, and/or oxygen under direct observation of the RN
8.Apply suctioning techniques to clear airways under direct observation of the RN
9.Apply dressings and bandages.
10.Apply prefabricated splints and immobilization devices.
11.Apply spinal immobilization devices.
12.Utilize electrocardiograph monitors, accurately monitor, analyze and interpret rhythm/arrhythmias and provide appropriate documentation and communication related to interpretation
13.Perform "finger stick" blood glucose testing procedures.
14.Utilize pulse oximetry monitors, cardiac monitor, and set up ETCO2
15.Prepare the Level 1 infuser
16.Insert OG/NG and Foley cath in emergent situations under direct observation of the RN
17.Other duties as assigned

Education
• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 3 years recent field experience
