General Job Description:
The Shelter Advocate is responsible for assisting the Shelter Manager in maintaining the shelter to promote a safe and certification-compliant facility, providing daily client shelter services and administrative tasks. Client shelter services include, but are not limited to, answering the main phone line and hotline, assisting clients with daily needs and requests, and connecting clients with programming staff. Administrative tasks include, but are not limited to, accurate input of client data and activities into Caseworthy.
Qualifications for Position:
Completion of high school or general equivalency diploma (GED). Experience working with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual violence preferred. Ability to show caring and empathy towards survivors of domestic violence. Must be able to work with a culturally diverse community with sensitivity and professionalism. Good written and verbal communication skills. Experience in handling stressful situations. Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Other requirements include a current Georgia driver’s license with no major driver infractions in the past 5 years, reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance. Must pass criminal background screening.
Primary Functions:
- Provide immediate crisis intervention via telephone (hotline) for victims of domestic violence, complete crisis call forms and document appropriately.
- Assist clients with needs and service requests.
- Provide emotional support for clients.
- Maintain security for the shelter at all times.
- Ensure clients are aware and adhere to shelter guidelines.
- Is respectful and non-judgmental in all dealings with clients and vendors.
- Review all emails, memos and organizational sites for information about policy changes, directives and/or client issues.
- Ensure all activities are recorded and entered into Caseworthy.
- Ensure daily maintenance checks of the shelter and report any deficiencies.
- Ensure the shelter is clean and free of debris.
- Ensure the shelter adheres to all health and safety standards
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
