The Commercial Production Unit Credit Manager (CPU Credit Manager) position is responsible for commercial credit underwriting and production on aggregate Bank commercial loan exposure up to $750,000. The position involves interaction with the Director of Credit Administration and Commercial Credit Manager, as well as commercial, business banking, and retail leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage, coach, train and develop a group of Credit Analysts (I, II, and III).
- Underwrite total Bank commercial and commercial real estate loan requests up to $750,000, in adherence with Bank lending policy.
- Collaborate with and occasionally advise commercial, business banking, and retail leadership on loan structure, loan policy and various procedures.
- CPU Manager, with support from the Credit Manager/Director of Credit Administration, will lead ongoing training efforts for CPU analysts within the credit group and Community Banking Relationship Managers/Commercial Relationship Managers
- Discuss and resolve any perceived credit weaknesses or potential risks that direct reports may uncover in the underwriting process.
- Actively participate in external credit related exams and audits.
- Write or support the development of credit policies/revisions and procedures.
- Identify and introduce timely recommendations to improve underwriting results, both from a risk management and efficiency standpoint.
- Actively participate in various governance related tasks including but not limited to fair lending, loan pipeline management, and Reg B requirements.
- Collaborate with the Sageworks Administrator on any needed system enhancements or issues that relate to Credit Analysis.
- Provide support in assistance with the preparation of the Bank’s Vendor Review’s, Jumbo Mortgage Underwriting requests, and ACH reviews within the appropriate exposure monitored within the CPU Division.
- The CPU Manager will provide support to the Commercial Credit Group, as required, dictated by workflow volume.
- Program oversite for the Banks Auto Decision and Matrix Approval.
- Provide program oversight, accompanied by the Credit Manager/Director of Credit Administration, for credit enhancement programs (FAME, New Hampshire Business Finance Authority, SBA Express and SBA 7a) as required.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Formal credit analysis training or the experience and educational equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work collaboratively at all levels of the organization
- Proven ability to successfully communicate, interact, and build effective relationships
- Strong leadership skills as demonstrated through direct or intangible experiences
- Successful track record of performance as an individual underwriter and through leading others, either formally or informally
- Make business decisions with the Bank’s goals and objectives in mind
- Able to effectively communicate before groups of people, both within and outside the organization. Is comfortable and effective in communicating upward
- Possess and demonstrate good project management skills. Has proven track record of leading or adding significantly to project teams, both within the region, on an organizational level, or even outside the bank on a volunteer basis
Supervisory Skills:
- The CPU Credit Manager will have direct reports that consists of up to several Credit Analysts (I, II, and III). The CPU Credit Manager is responsible for supervisory duties in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning assigning and directing work efforts; performance reviews; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
