Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Weekend Library Circulation Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our library services through effective customer service, book repair, book covering, and reader's advisory. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work within an integrated library system.

Job Title:  Part-time Weekend Library Circulation Technician
Reports to:  Library Director
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Full or Part Time: Part-time, weekends only
Location: Camden, ME
Position Summary: Perform a variety of functions, including shelving, checking books in and out, answering phones, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves customers directly at the Circulation Desk; checks in and checks out library materials; assists customers in the search and retrieval of information through print and electronic resources, etc.
  • Answers information requests.
  • Places and fills interlibrary loans requests.
  • Shelves and repairs library materials.
  • Assists customers with technical support in the use of the Library’s computers.
  • Answers the telephone.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Teaching/Training – Demonstrated ability to train others on processes and procedures.
  • Detail Orientation – Adept in meticulous attention to details of records and materials processing.
  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.Attributes:

  • This position requires prolonged standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, seeing (including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and focusing ability), reaching/stretching, crouching, along with occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • The environment is a standard office environment; noise level is usually moderately quiet.

Education:
A High School education of the equivalent is required; post-secondary education in a related field is preferred; a thorough knowledge of cataloging principles is also preferred.

Work Experience:
Experience working with library circulation or a bookstore is preferred.
