Position Summary:
Camp Akiba is seeking a compassionate and experienced Camp Social Worker for a traditional overnight camp to support the emotional well-being of campers and staff throughout the summer. This role involves providing mental health support, crisis intervention, and guidance to campers while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all. The Social Worker will collaborate with camp leadership, division leaders, counselors, and medical staff to address social, emotional, and behavioral needs, fostering a positive camp experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Camper Support:
- Provide individual and group counseling to campers experiencing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges.
- Develop and implement strategies to help campers navigate homesickness, anxiety, peer conflicts, and other adjustment issues.
- Work closely with counselors and unit heads to identify and support at-risk campers.
Staff Collaboration & Training:
- Train and educate staff on mental health awareness, behavior management, and conflict resolution strategies.
- Serve as a resource for counselors and unit heads in addressing camper concerns.
- Offer debriefing sessions for staff dealing with emotionally challenging situations.
Crisis Intervention & Conflict Resolution:
- Respond to mental health crises, providing immediate support and de-escalation as needed.
- Mediate peer conflicts and assist in creating positive group dynamics.
- Communicate with camp directors and medical staff regarding significant concerns and intervention plans.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Full-time, residential summer position (June–August).
- Room, board, laundry and food provided.
- Salary based on experience.
