Camp Fernwood, a residential summer camp in Maine, is seeking highly motivated instructors to teach at our sailing program during summer 2025! (June 14-August 8).
At Fernwood, they will have the incredible opportunity to teach girls ages 8-15 with diverse levels of experience. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of 150 staff members from around the globe, participating in an engaging seven-week program designed exclusively for girls. Each day will be filled with a variety of exciting activities, making this a truly enriching experience!
This is a fantastic chance to gain hands-on experience, develop your skills, and inspire creativity in young campers. As a member of our sailing team, you’ll lead lessons, teach essential sailing skills, and help campers connect with the joy of being on the water. You’ll be part of a dynamic and supportive environment that encourages teamwork and adventure.
Our sailing program consists of:
- Sailing Fundamentals: Campers learn the basics of sailing, including terminology, navigation, and boat safety. Instruction is tailored to various skill levels, ensuring that everyone can participate and grow.
- Hands-On Instruction: Participants receive hands-on training on different types of boats, focusing on practical skills such as steering, tacking, and controlling sails. Experienced instructors provide guidance and support throughout.
- Water Safety: Safety is a top priority, and campers are taught essential water safety practices, including the proper use of life jackets and emergency procedures, to ensure a safe sailing experience.
- Teamwork and Leadership: The program emphasizes teamwork, encouraging campers to work together and support one another on the water. Leadership skills are developed as campers take turns being in charge of the boat.
- Exploration and Adventure: Campers have the opportunity to explore the surrounding waters, participate in fun sailing games, and enjoy the beauty of nature while learning to navigate.
- Sailing Competitions: For those interested, friendly competitions and challenges are organized to foster camaraderie and showcase the skills campers have developed throughout the program.
