Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Aquatics Director to oversee the pool and waterfront operations of our camp program. The Aquatics Director will oversee the instructional and recreational activities at the swimming pool and Uncas Pond Waterfront. You are responsible for the safety and maintenance of the Pool area. In this position, you will work directly with the Lifeguards. Your responsibility is to direct the lifeguards and ensure the safety of the lifeguards, staff, and campers. This position qualifies as a seasonal employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Massachusetts labor laws. As such, seasonal employees are exempt from overtime pay requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Summer Director, the Aquatics Director will execute the plans set forth by the Summer Director.
- Responsible for the development of all safety protocols that will be strictly enforced.
- Develop the instructional swim program for ages 5-16
- Execute the intermediate-level instruction of canoeing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards and instructors.
- Participate in Lifeguard responsibilities when needed
- Mentor, develop, and train Lifeguards throughout the summer.
- Responsible for basic maintenance, operation, and safety of the swimming pool and camp’s small craft at Uncas Pond.
- Report daily to the Summer Director.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid possession of the following certifications through Red Cross, YMCA, Boy/Girl Scouts, or other nationally or internationally recognized organization:
- Water Safety Instructor
- Life-Saving
- CPR/First Aid
- Any previous supervisory or management experience (at least 6 weeks)
- Computer skills, record keeping, and maintenance skills.
- Preferred Qualifications: Valid possession of Certified Pool/Spa Operator, and recent previous experience as Water Safety Instructor, Head Lifeguard, and swimming and small craft instructor in a camp environment equipped with both a swimming pool and pond or lake waterfront.
- Have a sense of humor! This is a fun and nurturing camp for children to learn, grow, and enjoy their safe camping experience.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds.
Employment Contingencies:
- Submission of Massachusetts CORI, SORI, and your local police department background checks that reveal no previous or pending criminal activity.
- Submission of all required pre-employment and post-hiring documentation, including current health status, health history, and proof of good health.
