Position Description:
Camp Jorn YMCA is a healthy thriving independent YMCA camp in search of a visionary leader who will lead the Y forward and build upon past success. The current program base includes day and overnight sessions along with year around child care and retreats. This person is charged to assess the camp’s physical and program needs, develop a well-trained and motivated staff, and support fundraising through annual and capital campaigns. The Executive Director works with a YMCA board that focuses on strategic issues rather than operational issues. Success will depend on an appreciation for historical relationships with donors, volunteers, and camp alumni.
Key Deliverables:
- Advocate the vision of the YMCA and be the heart and soul of the operation.
- Build and manage the staff team.
- Provide strong fiscal leadership and lead fundraising efforts.
- Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic plan.
- Maintain/Establish a culture of inclusion, engagement, and character.
Total Compensation Package:
- Salary Range: $75,000 – $100,000
- On-site Director’s House is optional (4BR, 3BA, 2C)
- Health Insurance 75% YMCA covered
- Dental Insurance 50% YMCA covered
- YMCA Retirement Plan (8% of salary – 7% by Camp & 1% required of employee)
Minimum Criteria for candidates:
Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission. A 4-year college degree and five years of experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees is a must. Applicants must also have the ability to critically review, develop and enhance the programs being offered to effectively broaden our engagement in the communities in which we serve.

History: The property was purchased by the Lake County Family YMCA in 1952. On August 30, 2007, Camp Jorn purchased its title from the Lake County Family YMCA and became an independent YMCA Camp! Camp Jorn has been serving children from IL, WI and other areas throughout the country and across the globe since 1953!
Camp Jorn Location: Camp Jorn YMCA is situated on a 70 acre peninsula of mature pine forest in Wisconsin’s Northern Highland State Forest. Located on the shores of Rest Lake, part of the Manitowish Chain of Lakes, the nearest town is Manitowish Waters.
Staff: The Y has seven full-time exempt staff members. In addition, there are approximately 70 part-time and seasonal summer staff
Financial: Total operating budget is $1.5M with 66% revenue from camp and program fees, 34% from charitable donations
Community: The Manitowish Waters area is the ideal spot to "get away from it all." Located in Northwestern Vilas County in Wisconsin's Northwoods, Manitowish Waters is known for its quiet, less stressful surroundings which are perfect for a family vacation, reunion, romantic getaway, hunting or fishing excursion, or leisure day trip. With a year 'round population of roughly 700, Manitowish Waters experiences quite an increase throughout the seasons from a combination of seasonal residents, second homeowners and vacationers.The beautiful chain of lakes provides a unique connection of 10 pristine water bodies linked by navigable channels. With over 4,200 acres, the chain is perfect for leisure boating, watersports, and fishing.

Target Dates for the search process:
- The search process for our next Executive Director is open and will continue until the right match is found. We will start evaluating applicants on March 15.
- Resumes accepted now and until an employment commitment is completed.
- Candidate reviews and phone / onsite interviews will be continuous with final selection possible as early as April 22ndor anytime thereafter. We are in a position of flexibility regarding a start date and that our only real preference is to have the candidate be in place no later than November.
- Director’s home may not be available until Dec 1, 2022
