Seasonal educator position responsible for the development and delivery of high quality, innovative, mission-centered programs through all Joy teams with the primary focus on Outdoor School Programs. Roles with this position include, but are not limited to, teacher, actor, ropes technician, customer service provider and office employee. Activities include, but are not limited to, High Ropes Challenge Courses, Group Initiatives, Natural History/Environmental classes, Cultural History/Living History plays, program support functions as well as traditional summer camp activities. Populations served vary from elementary through college students, underserved youth, and adults. Hourly employee working a fluctuating forty hours within a seven-day work week includes weekend and evening time commitments.

1. Customer Service- Role model aggressively friendly, positive interactions with participants, clients, and co-workers. Respond effectively and efficiently to participants, clients and co-worker needs, by giving and receiving information, weighing into and resolving disagreements and problem solving. Examples of Customer Service responsibilities include oversee meals, cabin inspection, bus greeting.

2. Work Effectiveness- Execute work processes to meet volume and quality requirements in a productive manner. The assigning and /or accepting of work-related responsibility. Examples of Work Effectiveness include fill in for sick co-worker, share project work, complete resource time projects and non-teaching duties.

3. People/Relationship Skills- Work as a productive, cooperative team. Pay attention to others' communications to assure understanding. Share information and knowledge with others (coaching, best practices) to improve performance. Examples include actively participating in team meetings, creating professional relationships with all co-workers, assess the needs of others and provide physical and emotional support.

4. Leadership Effectiveness - Achieve despite barriers. Adhere to Joy’s 27 fundamentals, mission, vision, and values. Be goal oriented by setting high standards and seeking challenges. Examples include picking up trash, maintaining a professional appearance and growing as a professional.

5. Safety Conscious- Adhere to all Camp Joy and program specific policies and procedures. Keep a constant watchful eye on property, facilities, resources, guests, and self. Respond to emergencies and maintain a safe/clean activity area.

6. Program Development- Develop and design high quality professional programs based on the needs of the participants, partner organizations and schools. Lesson plans built to include 8 intelligences, state standards, sequencing, transference, etc. Innovate and enhance OSP programs for the benefit of the OSP team during Resource time.

7. Program Delivery- Present programs and debriefs that are well thought out, transfer between lessons, connect to personal lives, and progress with participant involvement with hands on activities. Students should retain the desired outcomes as observed through different forms of assessment you build into your lesson.

8. Class Management- Establish positive relationships along with age appropriate and clear behavior and safety expectations for every program. Discipline with dignity when appropriate. Create an environment in which participants are engaged and actively participating in activities and discussions.

9. Flexible/Team Player - Adapt positively to schedule changes and be willing to jump in where needed. Role model “one team, many strengths” and be willing to assist and support co-workers.

10. Time Management/Prepared- Arrive on time and prepared for all programs, meetings and tasks. Utilize time efficiently and productively to fill allotted parameters.

Requirements Applicant must be able to carry supplies, etc. of at least 50 lbs., be able to work in outdoor environment in all types of weather and walk on uneven terrain. Applicant must be able to work a 7-day flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Applicant must be able to maintain First Aid, CPR, AED certifications. (Joy can provide training) Given appropriate training applicant must be able to meet Association for Challenge Course Technology Level 1 Practitioner standards including but not limited to the following: Recognize inherent risk specific to activities and program areas Effectively supervise and monitor participants at heights of up to 60 feet Efficiently maneuver and assist participants at heights of up to 60 feet

Qualifications 21 years of age preferred. College degree, professional certification or equivalent experience in education, recreation, or related fields. Applicant must have strong communication and organization skills Applicant must have experience and ability to communicate and work with a wide range of ages of clients and staff.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • Evenings as needed
  • Nights as needed
  • Weekends as needed
