Job Description - Art Teacher
We are looking for an independent-working, organized, and creative Art & Crafts Counselor to work with children ages 5 to 16 in an outdoor camp setting.
He / she must be able to develop, coordinate, and implement age-appropriate projects, with a strong focus on recycled and nature related arts that coincide with the weekly themes. A passion for the environment is a plus! There is a budget for materials and the coordinator will be responsible for maintaining supply inventory and budget invoices.
An outline of all projects is required 2 weeks prior to the start of camp. Our camp has been in South Florida for 35 years and has an excellent reputation for educational activities and fun adventures, so the ideal candidate will love working with kids, the environment and of course, art!
Camp Live Oak, the first ACA accredited camp in Broward County, has been offering award-winning, educational outdoor programs for 35 years in local state park. Children ages 5-16 experience a traditional day camp with exciting activities including archery, canoeing, swimming, surfing, non-competitive sports, paddle boarding, hiking, fishing, arts and crafts, field games, hands-on science, photography, teambuilding, ranger-led programs, expert guest speakers, animal interaction, habitat preservation, beach exploration, field trips, sleepovers and more! In addition to meeting the ideal adult / camper ratio required for American Camp Association accreditation, our staff is comprised of highly qualified certified teachers, specialists, scientists, state guides, ecologists, environmentalists, and water safety instructors. Pay Rate : $17 - $20 / hour
Location : Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, Ft. Lauderdale
Hours : part time to full time; plus, paid planning time before camp begins
Requirements :
Job Description and Schedule :
oMaintain the Art Equipment and inventory kept at the office and in the shed.
oDevelop and Deliver Lesson Plans for 10 weeks of Camp (work with Associate / On-site Director on this to make sure you have time for setting up and cleaning up)
Age appropriate- with measurable goals
Materials list to be ordered 2 weeks before camp begins – office will order
Printed and turned in to Director / BOD for approval prior to the start of camp
oWorking at camp 3 - 4 Days a week to deliver well rounded art programs that go along with the weekly themes.
oMaking sure you communicate with On-site Director at the beginning of each week- what you will be doing and if needed requesting an LIT to assist with the Program
oArrive at Camp at least one hour early to set up program for the day
Covering tables- setting out equipment – scouting area to run program
oCollect Data for grants / requested by Associate Director – you can assign this to an LIT or JR Counselor as part of their help during your lessons
oSpend one day a week at the office packing and planning for the upcoming week and cleaning and returning equipment / materials from the week prior.
oEnsure that art projects are able to be completed in one session and taken home. No paper mâché, please.
