Scope and Complexity: The Program Coordinator works and communicates regularly with the Food Services Director, Equestrian Director, Office Manager, and Camp Ranger (Maintenance) to continuously evaluate the support needs of each area, exchange information, receive and offer support, and dispatch the Staff accordingly to provide dining, equestrian, clerical, maintenance, program facilitation, and special activity assistance. The PC is in direct contact with and serves as administrative liaison for Camp Ondessonk’s outdoor education students, teachers, and chaperones while they are on-site, as well as parents and campers during the summer. Duties will involve administrative, programming, staffing, risk management, and public relations functions. The scope of this position directly affects the quality of experience of every visitor to Camp Ondessonk. During the fall and spring, this position is 50% field/program-based, 50% office/clerical-based; summer is 60% field/program-based, 40% office/clerical-based; and winter is 30% field/program-based, 70% office/clerical-based.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
School Year- From August through May, the Program Coordinator supports the Program & Hospitality Director in the execution of the Outdoor Education program through:
- * Provide sound leadership, direction, training, and supervision of the OE program and seasonal instructors.
- * Creating program schedules for staff and school groups and monthly staffing calendars that reflect the program's needs.
- * Serving as a liaison between teachers, instructors, and other administrators while school groups are on site.
- * Coordinating the summer camp promotional campaign and travel to schools through the winter.
- * Assisting other administrators in the planning and executing specialty weekend events and programs.
- * Assist in the implementation of the afterschool program for Johnson County Grade Schools
- * Manage logistics for programs and services responsible for
Summer- From late May through the end of Summer Camp, the Program Coordinator the execution of the Summer Camp program through:
- * Facilitation of the day-to-day efforts of summer camp.
- * Providing sound leadership, direction, and supervision for activity heads and Special Activity Coordinator.
- * Creation of daily and weekly program schedules for the various camper units.
- * Assure all program areas have the proper staff, supplies, and resources.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- * Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating OE Instructors and Summer Camp Staff.
- * Assist in design, implementation, and evaluation of outdoor ed, spiritual retreats, and other programs.
- * Promotion and development of both the outdoor education and summer camp programs.
- * Serve as a program facilitator and provide logistical support for staff and groups during busy times.
- * Serve as on-duty administrator during occasional nights and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- * Bachelor’s degree
- * Minimum twenty-one (21) years of age
- * Valid state driver's license
- * No less than 1 year of strong, documented experience programming outdoor education, environmental education, adventure and challenge course programming, and organized camping
- * Positive attitude, professional demeanor, open mind, and a good heart
- * Solid work ethic, sense of professional ownership, and strong organizational skills
- * Flexibility, adaptability, and desire to foster a sense of community with the staff
- * Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills
Preferred:
- * Bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor education, experiential education, environmental education, adventure education or related field
- * Experience leading hikes, facilitating team building activities, ground-based initiatives, low and high challenge courses, canoe/kayaking, horseback riding
- * Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED, Lifeguard, WFR, ACCT, AMGA, CHA, etc.
- * Professional memberships in: AEE, ACA, WEA, ACCT, etc.
- * Marketing and promotional background

Pay: $31,200.00 - $32,500.00 per year
