Job description
Camp Runoia is seeking dynamic and enthusiastic Seasonal Trip Leaders to guide and inspire campers through a variety of outdoor adventures. This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about the outdoors, enjoy working with youth, and possess strong leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
- Trip Planning and Preparation: Collaborate with camp staff to develop and implement exciting and safe trip itineraries, including trips to Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park to summit Katahdin, Gulf Hagas, Tumbledown Mountain, and more.
- Leadership and Supervision: Lead groups of campers on various outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, and camping. Ensure the safety, well-being, and engagement of all participants.
- Skill Development: Teach campers essential outdoor skills, including navigation, survival techniques, and teamwork, while fostering a love for nature and adventure.
- Safety Management: Conduct pre-trip safety briefings, manage group dynamics, and respond effectively to any emergencies or challenges that arise during trips.
- Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with campers, parents, and camp staff regarding trip details, expectations, and any incidents.
- Environmental Stewardship: Promote and model environmentally responsible behaviors and respect for nature throughout all activities.
- Reflection and Evaluation: After trips, gather feedback from campers and staff to assess the experience and make improvements for future trips.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in outdoor leadership or youth programming, preferably in a camp setting.
- Strong knowledge of outdoor skills, including navigation and survival techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to connect with campers of various ages and backgrounds.
- Passion for the outdoors and commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive camp culture.
- Training Provided: We will train you in Wilderness First Aid, Lifeguard certification, and Maine Educational Trip Leader certification.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
