What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Nurse position at Camp Tapawingo?
Camp Tapawingo is a traditional, all-girls summer camp in Sweden, Maine. Our 200 acres of woods, fields and sandy beaches overlook Mt. Washington and the White Mountains in the Lakes Region of Maine. Each summer, over 100 staff members come from all over the world to teach new skills, grow campers, and make lifelong friends. Tapawingo hires RN, LPN, and EMTs each summer. We hire medical staff for a minimum of two weeks with the opportunity for medical staff to stay the full summer (8 weeks). There is a hospital 12 minutes from camp. Along with this, Maine Medical Center, one of the country's leading hospitals, is 55 minutes from camp. Tapawingo campers and staff are typically physically and mentally healthy and health needs are generally limited to basic first aid. If a specialist is required or if x-rays or other laboratory services are needed, we use the institutions mentioned above.
The medical staff eat in the dining room with the campers and counselors, join in the camp activities and, in their free time, use the camp facilities as they wish. We have sick calls in the morning after breakfast and in the evening before dinner. If there are no in-patients (and there seldom are), the nurses need not stay in the infirmary. One nurse will always be required to be on duty (with a walkie talkie on) and this schedule will be arranged among the nursing staff.
