General Function
Directly supervised by and reporting to the Operations Manager, the Summer Program Director assumes responsibility for the entire summer camp operation. During the summer season, this includes the supervision and mentoring of assigned staff, program planning, and development. During the off-season months, the Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for ongoing program development, recruitment and retention of campers, and recruitment and retention of seasonal staff.
Benefits and Pay Rate
$25/per hour with opportunity to transition to salary after the first 90 days of employment

Requirements
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills
- Relevant experience working with people with disabilities
- A bachelor’s degree in recreation, social work, or related field, preferred
- A minimum of 2-3 season’s leadership experience in camping
- Certification in first aid and Infant, Child, and Adult CPR (Additional lifeguard certification is preferred)
- A current driver’s license
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 Ibs
- Must be able to reside on camp premises when camp is in session
- Must be comfortable in leading off-site trips if required
- Demonstrated skills and ability in: staff development, supervision, and evaluation; communication and program planning; and recognizing and encouraging quality in others.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace products, Canva, and Slack.
- Excellent verbal and written language skills
- Proficiency in Spanish and/or American Sign Language desired
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain that the health and safety of campers, members, and participants is the #1 priority of Camp Tuolumne Trails.
- Abide by Tuolumne Trails’ rules and policies.
- Develop and maintain good public relations with parents and families of campers.
- Serve as a mentor to an established group of Summer Program Staff and Leaders throughout the summer.
- Together with the Operations Manager, recruit, train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff.
- Facilitate appropriate disciplinary action against employees who violate rules and regulations and addressing employee grievances
- Create, plan, schedule, implement, and evaluate camp programs and special events.
- Perform intake calls with campers and their caregivers to gather relevant information, build relationships, and share further details regarding the summer program.
- Routinely review camper registration forms in Campminder to ensure that all required forms, medication and health history, and accurate dietary information is collected in a timely manner.
- Maintains ongoing communications with parents and caregivers leading up to the summer program.
- Facilitates and creates lesson plans and programming for daily activities.
- Encourage and assist in developing new ideas for camp programs and activities.
- Together with a team, organizes and leads various small and large group activities.
- Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
- Establish and maintain smooth logistics and master scheduling of camp, especially in regards to camper’s personal care, medical, and behavioral support needs, dietary information, and allergies.
- Maintain open communication with healthcare staff to ensure prompt and routine medication administration and first-aid.
- Maintain open communication with kitchen staff to ensure camper allergy and dietary information are shared and adhered to.
- Know and monitor all emergency systems that will ensure camper and participant safety at all times.
- Keep and submit accurate records (financial, accident/incident reports, maintenance repairs, etc.) in a timely fashion.
- Maintains an inventory and supplies list for all program areas including the infirmary.
- Be flexible and assist in any and all areas at Tuolumne Trails as needed and directed.
- Drive camp vehicles in emergencies and as needed.
- Together with a team, mediates any campers’ disputes and provides support for managing behavior.
- In the planning season, works with the Operations Manager to organize, maintain, and update seasonal staff through the recruitment and onboarding process including:
- Attending hiring and recruitment events to identify and recruit seasonal staff
- interviewing and selecting candidates
- Manage ongoing communications, transportation, and arrival information
- In the planning season, works with the Program Director to organize, recruit, and retain campers by:
- Attending resource events to connect with caregivers, campers, and service providers
- Create informational and marketing materials
- Gather and organize data and information for grant writing and reporting purposes
- Together with a team, coordinates and facilitates off-season rentals, events, and camps to generate year-round utilization of the camp facilities.
