Camp Wa-Klo is an all girls summer camp located at the foot of Mt. Monadnock in the beautiful southwest region of New Hampshire. “Our little corner of the world” provides a special summer home for campers with a warm, nurturing, and inviting family. Our staff and campers come from all over the world creating a diverse and unique community. We have approximately 40-45 staff who live in cabins and teach in a specialized area, and about 115-160 campers each session during the summer. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Waterfront Director to oversee and manage all waterfront activities and ensure the safety and enjoyment of campers. The Waterfront Director will be responsible for maintaining a safe, well-organized, and engaging waterfront environment, including overseeing swimming, boating, and other aquatic activities. This position is ideal for someone passionate about outdoor activities, safety, and providing a positive experience for young campers. Room and board are included, and salary is DOE. Dates are June 1- August 13, 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Supervision:
- Ensure that all waterfront activities are conducted safely and in compliance with camp policies and ACA and state regulations.
- Supervise and manage waterfront staff, ensuring that all lifeguards and instructors are properly trained, certified, and performing their duties to the highest standards.
- Monitor weather conditions and make appropriate decisions regarding aquatic activities.
- Run practice code blues and other waterfront safety drills
Program Management:
- Plan, organize, and oversee a variety of engaging waterfront activities, such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing.
- Develop weekly schedules for waterfront activities and coordinate with other camp departments to ensure smooth integration of waterfront programs.
- Maintain inventory of all waterfront equipment and ensure it is properly stored, maintained, and serviced.
Staff Training & Development:
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of waterfront staff, ensuring all team members are equipped with the necessary skills and certifications (e.g., lifeguard certification, CPR, first aid).
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship to staff, creating an atmosphere of teamwork, leadership, and professionalism
Safety Protocols & Emergency Response:
- Maintain and enforce camp safety protocols for all waterfront activities, including emergency response procedures.
- Respond promptly to any aquatic emergencies, providing first aid or coordinating with medical staff as needed.
- Regularly conduct safety drills with waterfront staff and campers.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with the scheduling and coordination of camper swim tests and water safety assessments.
- Maintain accurate records for staff certifications, camper participation, and equipment inventory.
- Communicate regularly with the Camp Director to update on staff performance, camper feedback, and any issues that arise.
