Camp Farnsworth is our day camp located in Bedford, NH on the banks of Sandy and Sebbins Ponds. Girls can explore our many trails with a nature hike, play their favorite games on our sports field, test their brains and brawn on our low-challenge activities, and beat the summer heat by going for a paddle around the ponds.
The Waterfront Director is responsible for: developing and implementing a comprehensive waterfront program including recreational swims, canoeing, paddleboarding and kayaking; training of lifeguards for out-of-camp trips; developing, organizing, and implementing creative water-related all-camp program events; recognizing camper achievements; improving staff and camper morale; implementing and helping other program areas; implement badges and other Girl Scout curriculum.
Major Accountabilities:
1. Ensures that Girl Scout mission, vision and program goals are carried out. Follows GSGWM, GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints, and ACA Standards.
2. Is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing the Waterfront program including boating/small crafts.
3. Supervises campers, staff, and visitors according to ACA standards, GSUSA standards and GSGWM camp aquatic policies.
4. Supervises lifeguard staff, serves as a mentor, and provides ongoing training in teaching and skill checks. Delegates jobs, arranges time off and provides oral and written evaluations. Practices emergency drills on a regular basis.
5. Coordinates specialty programs with the entire camp, attends staff meetings and participates in unit and all-camp program whenever possible.
6. Advises, consults, and instructs staff and campers in carrying out a waterfront safety program.
7. Maintains all records, reports, and equipment as required. Completes swimming records and award certifications. Submits work reviews, camper information, evaluations, and inventories on a timely basis.
8. Assists in the ordering and organizing of supplies. Keeps all equipment in good repair.
9. Works to support staff and maintain staff and camper relationships.
10. Assists in planning and conducting pre-camp training and ongoing in-service training. Completes written observations and evaluations of the lifeguards.
11. Is part of the camp Core team and as such shares leadership for problems, needs, successes, schedules,
trainings, and supervision.
12. Always ensures the health and safety of campers and staff.
13. Is always a role model for staff and campers as to appropriate actions, words and conflict resolution.
14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Camp Director, which may include unit or administrative responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/Water Safety Instructor or equivalent certification
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Current small boat or watercraft safety certification preferred (including canoeing and kayaking module) or documented experience
- Documented experience in waterfront management preferred
- Documented experience lifeguarding
- Documented experience teaching boating safety and lessons
- Ability to train, supervise and evaluate staff in all areas of waterfront activities
- Ability to develop, plan, organize, and implement large and small group program events
- Experience working with children and adults
- Ability to demonstrate skills necessary for waterfront safety, lifeguard skills, and boating skills
- Ability to respond with calmness and with good judgment in a crisis situation
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and campers in an emergency
- Ability to participate in a strenuous camp program with the campers, while maintaining a high level of energy and enthusiasm
- Must participate in all required training
- Adheres to, and ability to carry out, all personnel policies and camp procedures

Compensation:
