CAMS Renewable Services LLC is seeking a Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician with expertise in electrical systems, substation maintenance, and grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role, based in Afton or Midlothian, TX (SE Dallas metro), involves performing substation preventative maintenance, troubleshooting high-voltage systems, and preparing quality reports on site conditions. Strong work ethic, communication, and documentation skills are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Site Management: Manage the inspections of roads, signage, and vegetation to ensure optimal site conditions. Maintain clear records of site conditions and address maintenance needs promptly.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly reports, maintain accurate records of site inspections, and manage planned and unplanned outages.
- On-Site Support: Provide hands-on support during BESS construction and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.
- Substation and Equipment Inspections: Conduct detailed inspections of substations and medium-voltage equipment, ensuring all components meet operational and safety standards.
- Electrical Work: Perform a variety of high-voltage electrical tasks, including managing and executing outages to support construction activities, electrical testing, and troubleshooting.
- Safety Compliance: Follow strict clearance procedures and safety regulations; consistently wear appropriate High Voltage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Collaboration: Participate diplomatically in meetings with regulatory inspectors and representatives from other organizations. Maintain strong professional relationships.
- Training and Development: Attend training sessions on new equipment as provided by manufacturers and approved by management to stay current with industry standards.
- Special Projects: Contribute to pre-commissioning and checkout of new substations, substation stage additions, and commissioning preparations. Address complex technical challenges as needed.
- Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, state electrical license, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with substations (gas circuit breakers, air switches).
- TX electrical license preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive in inclement weather.
- NFPA 70E and Substation Maintenance training certification.
- Proficient in using test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, power meters, insulation testers).
- Experience with high/low voltage systems, power breakers, and cable terminations.
- Certified in OSHA 10 (General Industry or Construction) and CPR.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Physical and Work Requirements
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and possibly in awkward positions for extended periods
- Work weekends and remain on-call as needed.
- Daily commute to the project site near Dallas, TX.
