The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Trades Specialists (CNC Machinists) utilize Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) equipment, such as milling machines and plasma tables, and the associated Computer Assisted Manufacturing (CAM) software to machine, create and fabricate parts and tools to digitally precise measurements and tolerances. Incumbents utilize the CAM software to modify machine speed, tooling, coolant usage and levels, and cutting style to ensure precision and accuracy of manufactured items.Illustrative activities include the following: • From specifications or description of part to be produced, plans tools and materials required, and the sequence of operations to be performed. • Selects proper materials for the job and lays out stock for machining by measuring and marking dimensions and reference points. • When operating machines, selects and installs proper cutting tools and sets machine controls which determine sequence of operations, the speed at which the tool or work moves, and the depth of the cut. • Machines parts to specifications and checks accuracy of the work by the use of precision measuring devices such as micrometers and gauges.

The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Trades Specialist (CNC Machinist) Eq to G-12Successful completion of the two-year traineeship; OR four years of full-time experience in the machinist trade utilizing Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software and technology, under a skilled tradesperson, which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the machinist trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.ORTrainee 1 Eq to G-9Successful completion of a one-year technical school or BOCES program, or possession of an associate degree in machining, computer numeric controlled machining, precision machining, advanced manufacturing technology, tool and die making, mechanical engineering technology, or a comparable curriculum (candidates must have a minimum “B-” or 2.7 GPA average in their coursework); or successful completion of the National Institute of Metalworking Skills Machining Level 1 certification and 1,000 hours of on-the-job training; or successful completion of the National Institute of Metalworking Skills Machining Level 2 certification; or 2,000 hours of on-the-job training; an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the machinist trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.ORTrainee 2 Eq to G-11Successful completion of a 52-week probationary period as a Trades Specialist (CNC Machinist) Trainee 1; successful completion of a one-year technical school or BOCES program, or possession of an associate degree in machining, computer numeric controlled machining, precision machining, advanced manufacturing technology, tool and die making, mechanical engineering technology, or a comparable curriculum and 1,000 hours of on-the-job training (candidates must have a minimum “B-” or 2.7 GPA average in their coursework); or successful completion of the National Institute of Metalworking Skills Machining Level 1 certification and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training; or successful completion of the National Institute of Metalworking Skills Machining Level 2 certification and 1,000 hours of on-the-job training; or 3,000 hours of on-the-job training; an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the machinist trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.Please note that employees must possess a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle(s) driven at the time of appointment & continuously maintain it thereafter or face possible disciplinary action up to & including termination.
