Job Summary
The main purpose of this position is to act as the field agent/inspector for the Environmental Department on new and existing projects, facilities, construction, and infrastructure as well as providing administrative assistance to the department manager and senior director. Works directly with contractors and subcontractors that work on land and in/on water construction projects and associated engineers, architects, and tenants. Reports to the Environmental Manage with a dashed line to the Senior Director in the Port Canaveral Environmental Department.
Essential Functions:
- Tracks and supervises new and existing projects for environmental policy compliance and protection; performs inspections and reports.
- Participates in and conducts tenant inspections and coordinates follow up.
- Assists the manager and senior director with grants, permitting, and policy writing.
- Assist with website updates for the environmental department.
- Prepare environmental reports and conduct agency coordination.
- Assist with annual Green Marine evaluation process.
- Assist in coordinating full-time and part-time interns throughout the year with tasks and activities.
- Maintain project logs pertaining to environmental inspections and activities and permit requirements.
- Participate in and coordinate community outreach and special projects.
- Attends various departmental engineering and environmental group meetings as assigned or when the manager or senior director are unavailable.
- Able to be on call to respond to unforeseen environmental issues and emergencies.
- During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS from accredited four-year institution in a related discipline, or if a BA/BS is underway or not yet started, significant documented work experience and training/certifications related to the duties outlined in the Essential Function section.
- Environmental policy knowledge and compliance inspection experience.
- Knowledge of environmental protection protocols on active construction sites; possession of or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification.
- Environmental emergency response experience; possession of or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour training.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain at a minimum the 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety and Health certification within the first year of employment.
- Competent in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Report, executive summary, and grant writing experience.
- Ability to problem solve, show initiative, and plan and organize.
- Geographic Information System (GIS) experience and skills a plus.
- Must be detail orientated.
- Various administrative functions.
Licenses / Certification Required:
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days
- Able to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Physical Requirement:
- Must be able to spend long periods of time outside standing or walking.
- May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (20-30 pounds).
Environmental Requirements:
- Office Environment.
- Outdoor/construction site environment.
