DB Environmental (DBE) is accepting resumes for a full-time Laboratory Analyst II at their main office in Rockledge, Florida. DBE is a small business, providing environmental consulting, research and laboratory services for government and private clients from offices located in Rockledge, West Palm Beach, and Gainesville, Florida. DBE specializes in conducting high quality biogeochemical research and ecological monitoring to improve and protect wetlands and aquatic systems throughout the state.
Position Summary
This is a staff level chemist position responsible for the preparation and analysis of various parameters in water, sediment, and biota matrices, using established protocols to ensure that turnaround time, quality, and productivity expectations are met. The chemist will conduct analyses by automated and manual methods using analytical instrumentation such as: UV-Vis spectrophotometers, segmented flow analyzer, multimode microplate reader, and carbon-nitrogen elemental analyzer. Additional duties include preparing soil and vegetation samples for subsequent analyses, calibrating and monitoring instrument output to ensure quality control standards are met, performing routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting instrumentation as needed, and entering data into Excel-based spreadsheets.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Preferred minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related scientific field. Additional practical experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- At least 2 years laboratory experience in a scientific discipline.
- Familiarity with basic environmental laboratory procedures, including sample log-in, sample preparation, inorganic laboratory analysis, and automated analytical laboratory instruments.
- Familiar with TNI/NELAC Standards, and experience in following quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC) protocols.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory safety.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and proven organizational, time, multi-tasking, and self-management skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
The position requires some lifting (up to 40 pounds), prolonged standing, repetitive bending and reaching, and periodic exposure to refrigerated conditions to retrieve samples. Primary activities are performed in a laboratory where employees routinely use numerous chemical compounds.
