What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Skilled Trades (Spray Tech) position at Canaveral Port Authority?
Hourly Rate: $28.00
Job Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining the Port Authority grounds. The ideal candidate must have experience as a certified spray technician, a commercial irrigation technician, or experience operating various heavy machinery.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, preservation and appearance of the grounds, pier and equipment of the port
- Operate CPA machinery, including tractors, mowers and trucks
- As needed, responsibility for care and maintenance of Port-owned irrigation systems
- As needed, responsibility for safely mixing and applying chemicals to the Port’s grounds
- As needed, ability to operate heavy machinery (i.e., backhoes, loaders, excavators, and graders to excavate, move, and grade earth, rock, and other materials during landscape construction projects, including digging trenches, shaping terrain, and assisting with the installation of features like ponds, retaining walls, and irrigation systems, while adhering to safety regulations and performing routine maintenance on the equipment.

- During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural man made or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/ or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have at least two (2) years’ experience in commercial landscaping
- For spraying duties, must have spray licenses in Turf and Ornamental and Right of Way
Licenses / Certification Required:
- Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.
Physical Requirement
- Tasks involved intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling or crouching and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50lbs).
- Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, in indoors or outdoor environments to complete work assignments
Working Conditions
- Tasks are performed indoor and outdoor environments. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, ex: heat, humidity, inclement weather.
- Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observant of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays and flexible with work hours
