What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiation Assistant position at Cancer Specialists LLC?
Cancer Specialists of North Florida is recruiting for an experienced Radiation Assistant for our busy Southpoint Office. The Radiation Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care in a medical environment that may include medical oncology and radiation oncology. Maintains efficient patient flow, assist with patient care, exams, procedures and patient education.
This position requires travel to any CSNF clinic that provides radiation therapy to patients and must be available to work flexible work schedule including early opening and evening hours.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate
- Records patient data including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies and medication changes
- Ensures all necessary patient records are obtain as required by physician
- Ensures appropriate consent documentation has been obtained prior to treatment or procedure
- Obtains pre-authorizations prior to treatment or procedures
- Obtain new patient records and previous test results; x-rays, scans, etc.
- Assist physicians with medical procedures, examination and testing of patients
- Assist with patient and family education and radiation teachings ie: wound care, triage, nutrition training in conjunction with the Nutritionist
- Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN
- Schedules patient test, procedures and hospital admission
- Prepares and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed
- Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols. Processes instruments and equipment as needed
- Performs other administrative duties, ie: typing, filing, faxing, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician.
- All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Graduate from a state approved certification program
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Radiation Oncology or in lieu of; LPN or RN License
- HDR experience
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Certified Medical Assistant Certificate required or
- Current State of Florida LPN or RN license
- National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) required for LPN or RN.
- Current BLS certificate required
