What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialist position at Candelen?
The Specialist supports a unique population of child care caregivers called ‘Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care’ (FFN) and/or families. The Specialist facilitates weekly training support groups in community-based locations with FFN caregivers and/or families, and educates them on various topics, including but not limited to: supporting the social emotional development of young children; promoting healthy practices; promoting early literacy skills, building safe and nurturing learning environments; and injury prevention. In addition, the Specialist fosters a learning environment that promotes peer-to-peer conversation, and provides support and resources to FFN caregivers and/or families in need.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate training support groups within the community to FFN caregivers to expand their knowledge, understanding, and practices that will improve the quality of care they provide to young children and support their developmental trajectory
- Build rapport and trusting relationships with FFN caregivers, community partners, and colleagues in a culturally appropriate and attuned manner to support program delivery
- Nurture and develop a learning environment in training support groups that fosters safety, trust, and connection
- Provide resources, support, and assistance to FFN caregivers
- Participate in community outreach events and meetings within the community
- Complete program evaluation that supports continuous quality improvement efforts and leads to demonstrating the impact of services
- Engage in the strategic direction of the organization
This position is based in and requires travel throughout South Phoenix. It is preferred that qualified candidates live in the region.
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge
- Understanding of child development and early childhood education principles
- Knowledge of best practices in early literacy, social-emotional development, and safe learning environments
- Awareness of community resources and supports for FFN caregivers and families

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email systems, and related technology

Requirements and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field, and a minimum of five years of classroom and/or supervisory experience working with young children
- Eligibility to obtain PD Instructor status in the AZ Early Childhood Network Registry)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Ability to travel throughout the state, have a current/valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, and have reliable transportation by automobile at all times
- Ability to meet background check requirements upon initial hire and for the duration of employment
- Have and maintain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card, if a working in the state of Arizona
