Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children, located in Somerville, MA, seeks a temporary Production Assistant. This role be responsible for managing the printing, manufacturing, and distribution of sales materials, and assist and support the production team with routine processes. This role will report to the Senior Fiction Production Strategist and is anticipated to be for 6 months.
Responsibilities:
Sales Materials
- Oversee the printing and manufacturing of sales materials for Candlewick-originated picture books and 1-color titles.
- Solicit competitive estimates from vendors as required.
- Issue purchase orders for ARCs, lithos, and digitally printed sales materials.
- Review and circulate sales material proofs.
- Receive, review, and distribute final materials accordingly.
- Review and approve invoices for sales materials and maintain budget grid.
Support
- Receive, approve, and distribute advance books.
- Open packages for incoming deliveries.
- Distribute wet proofs and collate proofs sets as needed.
- Enter invoice instructions for the production team as needed.
- Review and approve invoices as needed.
- Distribute reprint author/illustrator advances copies.
- Maintain archive cabinets and basement storage; remove out-of-print files/books when needed and place in storage
- Occasional filing and file maintenance, including Promo.
- Offer additional support as time allows.
- Perform other tasks as needed or assigned.
- Inform manager of issues as they arise.
Although not all inclusive, the responsibilities above are intended to serve as a guideline for tasks that are performed as part of this position.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 1 year in a book production and print buying environment is preferred, and ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of print purchasing including estimating, scheduling, prepress, paper, and binding.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred.
- Must be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and efficiently, and deal with issues diplomatically and tactfully.
- This role is to be performed in person, with minimal ability to work from home after a 90-day onboarding period.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
