About the Position
The Manager Philanthropy Events is responsible for planning, organizing and executing impactful fundraising events within the region, including galas, graduations, volunteer appreciation gatherings, and other mission-driven activities. Serving as the regional events lead, it provides strategic guidance to regional and headquarters leadership to ensure alignment with organizational goals. The position drives financial success by securing corporate sponsorships, cultivating auction donors, and stewarding donor relationships. This position plays an ambassadorial role, representing Canine Companions at events and in the community to increase awareness and support for our mission. The primary goal is to maximize fundraising outcomes, strengthen donor engagement, and enhance the visibility of the Canine Companion’s mission in the region.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed:
- Plan, coordinate, organize and lead regional events that will raise the funding requirements of the regional budget.
- Lead volunteers, appropriate staff and event chairs to implement and grow and meet the participation and revenue for the events.
- Responsible for event communications; including, but not limited to, creation and/or editing event and sponsorship communications including the editing and updating of website information.
- Collaborate with volunteer manager to recruit, screen, and train volunteers for their event tasks and ensure proper coverage for events.
- Train volunteers in event protocol in accordance with Canine Companions’ procedures. Oversee and evaluate the ongoing work performance of volunteers and follow-up volunteer service with recognition and thank you letters.
- Discuss sensitive or difficult situations with event committee volunteers with the goal of a positive outcome for both the volunteer and the organization.
- Coordinate and provide support to event committees as needed for special events through administrative tasks and coaching, including but not limited to oversight of informational emails and communications.
- Manage bookkeeping and pulling or creating various reports to aid in the coordination, planning, implementation and successful execution of events.
- In conjunction with philanthropy staff, develop ad hoc volunteer committees for special events as needed. Support, encourage and oversee various volunteer chapter event activities.
- Work with philanthropy team to identify, solicit, and follow-up with prospective sponsors to secure financial and in-kind donations for fundraising events. Steward existing fundraising event sponsors and support committee members to do the same.
- Traveling to conduct face-to-face meetings with volunteers and committees when necessary.
- Partner with regional volunteer manager to execute appropriate volunteer activities as it pertains to events and event planning.
- Providing support for fundraising activities, including but not limited to, donors and sponsorships, acknowledgment. Developing sponsorship agreements with vendors, businesses, and donor cultivation for events, as well as conducting donor and sponsorship research.
- Coordinate all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, catering, entertainment, decor, and audio/visual requirements.
- Manage event timelines, ensuring all tasks are completed on schedule.
- Be accountable not only for direct responsibilities outlined in this job description but also to serve fellow staff and other constituents with whom position interacts. Ensure actions and communications follow core values.

- Able to learn software applications and use web-based applications.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of event planning experience. Event planning management experience preferred. Event planning management experience preferred. Experience working with volunteers and understands how to motivate and delegate to volunteer teams to achieve organizational goals. Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with database and/or auction software experience a plus.
EDUCATION: Post-secondary degree preferred, preferably in hospitality, public relations, non-profit or a field directly related to this role, or combination of education and experience that would lead to the successful performance of the essential functions of the role.
WORKING CONDITIONS General office working conditions apply. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee will work indoors and outdoors performing philanthropic management, training and administrative duties. Employee will spend a good portion of the day in a seated position at a computer with keyboard and mouse but will work occasionally outdoors at events. Occasional travel, evening and weekend hours required.
SCHEDULE: Full Time. Occasional travel, evening and weekend hours required.
PAY: $ 52,000 - $56,000 annually
The base salary range above represents the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of total compensation package for employees.
