FAQ's
- Do I need to be a paralegal?
- No, you don't. This role does not require extensive legal knowledge or training and will not involve legal drafting. A paralegal certificate may be useful to help you understand how your work fits into the big picture, but it's not essential. We have hired people for similar positions with no previous legal training with great success. The most important thing for this job is that you have organization and problem solving skills. If you have that, we can teach you the specific subject matter issues.
- Do I need to have worked in a law firm before?
- Not necessarily although it is likely to be helpful. The skills needed for this position are the same as many office jobs require: organizational skills, communication skills, and computer skills. Like we said above, we can teach you the legal side. In some ways it's easier to teach the legal side than to teach problem solving skills. If you are interested in the field, please don't feel put off by not having prior legal experience if you have the other skills we need.
- Can I work remotely?
- Hybrid work will probably be possible at some point, but not initially. We had a strong culture of flexible schedules before COVID. And since then we've definitely improved our ability to function remotely. We have the technology and processes in place to make that remote work possible and effective once people are operating at a high level in their position. However, we've found onboarding and training to be difficult to accomplish remotely, so we'll need you in the office for at least the first few months. Once you pick everything up and as long as you're doing well, we're happy to talk about remote work some days. However, due to the nature of the position, it will not be possible for it to be fully remote.
- What's it like working with you guys?
- I'm probably not the best person to ask that since I run the place. But for what it's worth, I think we're pretty great. Overall, we try to have a constructive and supportive work environment. Things get stressful at times, but for the most part I think our team gets along well.
- When are you looking to hire by?
- We want to have the position filled by the end of September if possible. That means we'll be reviewing applications and offering interviews on a rolling basis until September 20 or so. We'll make a decision and notify the successful candidate shortly after that expecting them to provide 1-2 weeks notice. At least that's the plan. It's likely things will not go exactly to plan.
