Overview:
The Canton Fire and Police Commission is accepting applications for new and experienced officers for testing to create a hiring list for the Canton Police Department.

Applications can also be picked up in the Mayor’s Office, 2 N. Main Street, M-F, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Applications must be filed by Friday, May 16th. They can be mailed or delivered in person or emailed to ckohler@cantoncityhall.org.
Testing will be conducted on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, beginning at 8:00 a.m. It will consist of a written exam and an oral interview.

- Enforce laws, respond to emergency calls, and patrol assigned areas to prevent crime
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and interview witnesses
- Write detailed reports documenting incidents and actions taken
- Provide assistance to the public during emergencies and crisis situations
- Perform CPR, first aid, and other life-saving procedures when necessary
- Manage conflicts and de-escalate tense situations effectively
- Utilize criminal investigation techniques to solve cases
- Utilize driving skills for patrolling and responding to incidents
- Implement loss prevention strategies to protect property and assets
- Handle animal-related incidents with care and professionalism
Skills:
- Proficient in CPR and first aid procedures
- Strong report writing skills for documenting incidents
- Effective conflict management abilities
- Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques
- Ability to drive safely in various conditions
- Familiarity with loss prevention strategies
- Experience in handling animals responsibly
- Possession of relevant certificates in law enforcement or related fields
