JOB DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for coordinating community-wide specialized programs, facility areas, and/or specialty group activities.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)
• Maintains accurate and detailed records, logs, and reports as required.
• Recommends the purchase of program supplies and equipment for the recreation program.
• Trains and evaluates part-time and seasonal employees assigned to the program.
• Prepares budget requests for program expenditures.
• Responsible for responding to, communicating, and documenting emergency situations, including, but not limited to, First Aid, Severe Weather, and Missing Child events.
• Responsible for keeping abreast of community needs and current trends in the recreation field to ensure the delivery of cutting-edge and state-of-the-art recreation programming.
• Works with community organizations, groups, and individual citizens to promote recreation.
• Responsible for interaction with participants, families, and staff members in a positive, professional, and friendly manner to ensure a high level of customer service and delivery of quality recreation programs.
• Maintains and displays extensive knowledge related to the recreation area.
• Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
• Responsible for the detection and reporting of property and equipment defects.
• Responsible for keeping accurate computerized records related to program, event, and membership management.
• Responsible for enforcement and compliance with safety program rules and procedures.
• Responsible for all assigned staff being able to execute emergency procedures.
• Performs other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Minimum age of 18.
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in recreation required.
- Must be able to possess Basic First Aid and CPR (Adult and Infant) certifications within 60 days of employment.
- Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns, which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
- Strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills required.
- Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
- Must demonstrate a strong interest in and extensive knowledge of recreation programs.
- Ability to work a wide variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements, and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints, and staff availability.
