Skilled General Tradesman

Core Responsibilities:

1. General Carpentry:

   • Construct, install, and repair frameworks, structures, and fixtures like doors, windows, cabinets, and shelving.
   • Perform minor framing work, drywall installation, patching, and painting, often working alongside specialized carpenters when necessary.

2. Plumbing Work:

   • Conduct basic plumbing tasks, including installing and repairing faucets, toilets, and sinks.
   • Address minor leaks, clogged drains, and fixture replacements while identifying when specialized plumbing services are required.

3. Electrical Repairs and Installations:

   • Perform basic electrical work, such as replacing switches, outlets, light fixtures, and other non-complex tasks.
   • Troubleshoot minor electrical issues safely and recognize when to escalate to a licensed electrician for more complex jobs.

4. Painting and Finishing:

   • Paint walls, ceilings, and other surfaces, including touch-ups and full-room applications.
   • Prepare surfaces for painting, ensuring smooth finishes and proper color matching.

5. Flooring and Tiling:

   • Install and repair tiles, including ceramic, porcelain, and vinyl, and conduct small tile repairs.
   • Handle basic flooring tasks, such as laying hardwood, laminate, and vinyl planks, or making repairs to existing flooring.

6. HVAC Maintenance:

   • Perform basic heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance, such as filter replacement, cleaning, and minor repairs.
   • Identify issues in HVAC systems that require specialized attention.

7. Exterior and Landscape Work:

   • Conduct light exterior repairs, such as gutter cleaning, minor roof repairs, fence mending, and deck maintenance.
   • Assist in landscaping tasks, including lawn care, hedge trimming, and pressure washing.

8. Furniture Assembly and Moving:

   • Assemble furniture, cabinetry, shelving units, and similar items.
   • Assist in moving and rearranging furniture, especially during renovations or staging.

9. Safety and Compliance:

   • Follow safety protocols on-site to prevent accidents, using personal protective equipment and ensuring the workspace remains hazard-free.
   • Stay updated on local building codes and regulations to ensure compliance in all repairs and installations.

10. Customer Service and Communication:

• Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, offer clear explanations of repair options, and provide accurate estimates.
• Maintain a professional, customer-oriented approach, ensuring satisfaction and fostering long-term client relationships.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency across multiple trades, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and general maintenance.
• Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of maintenance issues effectively.
• Time Management: Efficiently handle multiple tasks, prioritizing work based on urgency and project timelines.

Certification and Experience:

• While formal licensing may not be required for all tasks, having certifications in specific trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC) enhances qualifications.
• Prior experience in construction or general contracting work, with the ability to manage a variety of repairs and installations independently.
