We are seeking a qualified Noncredit Instructor to join our team at College of the Canyons. As a part-time faculty member, you will have the opportunity to teach a diverse range of courses and work with students from various backgrounds.
About the Position:
This is an on-going recruitment for future consideration into the Noncredit Instructor Applicant Pool. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the area of Noncredit - Addition & Substance Abuse (Rising Scholars).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume leadership roles within the department and institution as a whole, demonstrating a commitment to serving the needs of students, departments, colleges, and communities. Collaborate across disciplines, utilizing student support resources and participating in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities. Participate in curriculum and program development, working collegially and collaboratively within the college community. Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction, effectively engaging with and facilitating authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Adapt teaching pedagogy to meet the unique needs of each class, self-reflecting and responding to evidence-based assessments of student learning. Demonstrate experience integrating new technologies into the learning process, including interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Possession of an unexpired California Community College Instructor Credential in the appropriate discipline, or equivalent qualifications such as a Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or sociology. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught, or other equivalent qualifications may be considered. Desirable qualifications include experience teaching content related to addiction and substance abuse.
Working Conditions:
The successful candidate will be required to teach onsite at Pitchess Detention Center and/or Century Regional Detention Facility, Monday through Thursday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Online certification is also required for teaching online courses with College of the Canyons.
