GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as Spring 2025 Visiting Artist and Director. Teach one section of THR241 Selected Topics in Theatre: Shakespeare in Performance on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. during the 2025 Spring Semester (January 21-May 16, 2025) and direct the Spring Musical, The Prom. Shakespeare in Performance introduces students to the fundamentals of performing Shakespearean texts, focusing on the language, rhythm, and emotional depth of his plays. Students explore vocal and physical techniques to embody Shakespeare's characters, analyze the social and cultural contexts of the works, and apply practical acting methodologies. Through monologues, scenes, and group exercises, students will gain confidence in performing classical texts and develop a deeper understanding of Shakespeare's relevance today.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Instructor Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction in both traditional and non-traditional learning modes.
- Select and develop appropriate materials for each class use.
- Track and assess student progress.
- Maintain appropriate attendance and learner records.
Director Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator, Technical Director, designers and other creative team members to prepare a fully produced musical for public performances.
- Mentor student cast and crew in the creative process.
- Conduct a minimum of three 3-hour rehearsals per week plus additional technical and dress rehearsals in the weeks leading up to the opening of the show.
- Coordinate with Program Coordinator and Technical Director on all production elements including budget and expenses, director's creative concept, auditions and casting.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Fine Arts in Theater or equivalent professional experience in performance, directing or a related field.
- Meaningful acting and/or directing experience in local, regional, and national productions.
- Significant expertise in the works of Shakespeare as evident by a creative body of work.
- Effective pedagogical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to create a classroom environment that engages students and supports learning.
- Equity and inclusion-minded with experience fostering a learning environment that celebrates the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and racial and ethnic backgrounds present within our college community.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- College level teaching experience, preferably at a community college.
- Familiarity with, or ability to adopt, consent-based practices in the classroom and rehearsal studio.
- Experience using Moodle or other Learning Management Systems

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: Anticipated starting salary - Step I DCE Pay Scale plus $2000 director stipend. Part-time, non-benefited MCCC Unit position.
