What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sailing Instructor position at Cape Cod Community Sailing, Inc.?
Overview
We are a new community sailing organization seeking independent instructors and licensed captains, to teach youth, adult, and adaptive sailing at all levels, on an "as requested, as available" basis any time from May thorugh September.
Sailing lessons, from beginner to advanced (e.g. "heavy-weather" strategies) for both groups and individuals are offered 7 days a week, morning through evening, mostly in the mid-Cape region.
This position requires a strong commitment to student success; excellent communication skills; the ability to make fast decisions in varying circmstances and the ability to engage learners effectively.
Duties
- Develop and implement engaging sailing lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.
- Create and facilitate discussions and activities that encourage student participation and critical thinking.
- Assess student-sailors performance through various evaluation methods, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
- Maintain an organized and supportive environment conducive to learning.
- Work closely with other instructors, and both waterfront and administrative staff, to enhance instructional practices and share resources.
- Stay current with sailing trends and best practices to continuously improve teaching methods.
Requirements
- US Sailing or equivilent Counsellor, Level I or higher, certification are preferred, but both experienced sailors and trainee instructors and encouraged to apply too.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey, by both discourse and demonstration, complex concepts in an understandable manner.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and abilities of student-sailors.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and deal quickly and effectively with and difficult and emergency situations which may arise.
Job Types: Contract, Seasonal, Freelance
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
