Position Description

DEFINITION :

The role supports the daily operations of Counseling and Student Accessibility Services by acting as a resource for students with disabilities, managing test accommodations, and conducting follow-ups as needed. The role involves assisting students, parents, faculty, and staff by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and making referrals to campus resources while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED :

  • Receives general supervision from the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator.
  • Exercises no supervision.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS :

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

Essential Functions :

  • Assist in the day to day operations of Counseling and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) including, but not limited to serving as a resource for all students with disabilities, scheduling test accommodations and providing follow up with students as needed.
  • Provide approved accommodations for students with disabilities during testing, including quiet, low-distraction settings, screen readers, and other assistive technology on all 4 campus locations.
  • Ensure that CFCC students with disabilities are provided with approved accommodations for testing based on the students' documented disabilities
  • Assist students, parents, faculty & staff by answering questions, resolving issues, and making appropriate referrals to campus resources.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all students and visitors.
  • Provide front desk coverage as needed, including handling phone calls, responding to inquiries, and addressing student needs.
  • Coordinate accommodated testing from start to finish; including scheduling, communicating with faculty, maintaining testing materials, and returning completed tests as designated by faculty.
  • Guide students on process of requesting and scheduling accommodated testing.
  • Monitor students during testing to ensure compliance with protocols, including securing non-permissible items while testing and enforcing test completion times.
  • Train students in the use of adaptive instructional materials and assistive technology.
  • Use software to manage room reservations for overflow testing, events, and outreach.
  • Maintain confidential electronic department files, records, and data (such as Softdocs, employee shared drives, Watermark, Colleague).
  • Assist Counseling & SAS to report help desk / IT, marketing, custodial, and maintenance requests.
  • Follow up with students regarding routine matters such as appointment reminders and the lending / return of assistive devices and technology.

  • Liaise with CFCC Testing Services personnel to coordinate delivery of proper documentation during TEAS and other standardized tests.
  • Monitor departmental email inboxes and disburse contents to appropriate staff members.

  • Problem solve in special need or crisis situations.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge of :

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (P.L. 43-112)
  • Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-336)
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Ability To :

  • Organize work for timely completion
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES :

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :

    Minimum Education / Training :

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience :

  • One-year experience in an educational / human service setting.
  • Preferred Education / Training, Experience, Skills :

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with students in an educational setting preferred
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and assistive technology is also preferred

  • Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master's degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
