Position Overview
The Digital Literacy Specialist is a part-time position (15-20 hours per week) focused on improving Cape Fear Literacy Council’s (CFLC) digital literacy programs through effective program coordination, volunteer support, and process enhancement. This role is grant-funded for one year and has strong potential for long-term employment based on program success and funding. The Specialist will play a key role in optimizing systems, supporting volunteer instructors, and creating a seamless learning experience for adult students. The Digital Literacy Specialist reports to the Program Director.

Cape Fear Literacy Council (CFLC) empowers adults through personalized education, helping them transform their lives and contribute to a stronger community. CFLC’s Digital Literacy Program provides accessible computer skills instruction through a mobile lab (Computers on Wheels) and on-site classes, meeting learners where they are. The Digital Literacy Specialist plays a key role in making this vision a reality by optimizing program delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination
· Schedule and manage digital literacy classes and labs, ensuring alignment with learner needs and volunteer availability.
· Coordinate with community partners to secure offsite locations and manage agreements (MOUs).
· Maintain and improve instructional materials, forms, and processes to support seamless delivery.
· Collaborate with the Program Outreach Specialist to promote digital literacy programs.
Volunteer Support
· Recruit, onboard, and support volunteer instructors, ensuring they have the resources to succeed.
· Regularly communicate with volunteers to gather feedback and improve their experience.
Technical Setup
· Set up computer classrooms and ensure all equipment is operational for classes.
· Troubleshoot minor technical issues and liaise with external IT support when necessary.
· Advise the Program Director on purchasing computers, software, and peripherals to meet program needs.
Data and Reporting
· Track and input student participation and progress data into program databases.
· Contribute to reports and grant applications by providing relevant data and insights.
Other Duties
Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director to meet the needs of the organization.

Project Coordination: Experience in planning and executing program elements, with attention to detail and follow-through.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with basic computer setup, software applications, and troubleshooting; comfortable learning new platforms such as Northstar Digital Literacy.
Communication: Strong written and verbal skills to support collaboration with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Problem-Solving: Proactive in identifying and resolving challenges related to program delivery or technical needs.
Cultural Competence: Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Experience
· Experience in program coordination, volunteer management, or community-based initiatives.
· Experience in coordinating educational or community-based programs, and teaching experience is preferred.
· Comfort with technology and digital tools, though deep IT expertise is not necessary.
Position Details
This part-time role offers flexible scheduling, including hybrid remote and 2-3 days per week of in-person work. Hours may vary depending on class and lab schedules. Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience, and begins at $20 per hour.
