Summary
The MRI Technologist is fully competent to perform all MRI routine procedures for the diagnostic treatment of specified diseases or conditions.
The following is summaries of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.
Fully competent to perform all routine procedures designated within the MRI Section of Radiology Department. Demonstrates competency and efficiency in the treatment, care of and interaction with all patients of any age to include neo-natal, newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Fully competent in the technical operation of all equipment designated in this area.
Responsible for assessing and clearing the patient for MRI safety. Reviews the physician order or patient chart for appropriate order, diagnosis and physicians signature. Confirms the signed Patient MRI Interview Form. Prepares the patient for the procedure, answers any questions or refers questions to the radiologist assigned. Responsible for beginning and ending the procedure in the computer system to ensure proper billing for services and to maintain department productivity relative to work area. Maintains accurate record of patients. Provides a safe environment to include but not limited to magnetic field exposure, infection control guidelines and Universal Precautions. Maintains required credentialing and registry. Maintains annual mandatory hospital training. Maintains good guest relations with patients, visitors, hospital staff and medical staff to include the use of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation & Thank you. Actively participates in the clinical education of student technologists, dependent on shift and work location.
Education And Formal Training
ARRT Registered or a Graduate from an Associate in Applied Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), required. AHA CPR provided by Cape Fear Valley Training and Development required at orientation and maintained. Any applicant not registered as an ARRT in MRI must provide documentation of application with the ARRT to sit for the MRI registry. Registered in MRI with the ARRT is required post one (1) year of hiring date. Failure to achieve registration post one (1) year, will result in termination of employment.
