Summary
The Ultrasound Technologist I is fully competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions.
Fully competent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Department
Fully competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section. Assesses the patient, reviews the orders/ chart as appropriate confirming the reason for exam. Ensures pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed.
Prepares the patient for the procedure, answers any patients questions and effectively communicates with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol.
Responsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist.
Provides a safe environment to include, but not limited to, infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals.
Monitors the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement. Performs QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation. Actively participates in the clinical education of student sonographers.
Actively participates in department’s Performance Improvement Projects.
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
Graduate of an AMA approved Sonography program. ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer(RDMS) preferred. New graduates may apply that are registered or registry eligible. New graduates that are registry eligible must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of their hire date. Maintain current AHA CPR certification through Cape Fear Valley Training and Development department.
At least 1 Year of experience required
