GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Cape Henry Collegiate, a leading independent, coeducational day school in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking an innovative and experienced elementary school teacher for its thriving Lower School. Students are used to working in a very creative and vibrant environment and are fully engaged by teachers who know their students extremely well and plan activities accordingly.
Position Duties include:
- Organizing classroom instruction into whole group, small group and one-on-one instruction
- Differentiating to meet a variety of needs and encouraging each child to reach his or her potential
- Using a wide variety of print and digital resources to teach across disciplines
- Incorporating the use of a robust hands-on math curriculum (Math in Focus) and having the ability to reinforce, remediate, or extend students beyond the confines of the curriculum
- Being technologically proficient and able to use a variety of applications and tools to enhance students’ educational experience and learning outcomes
- Having an awareness of 21st Century global competencies and knowledge of how to weave those competencies through the curriculum
- Delivering new curriculum remotely, if necessary, through live instruction using digital platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom
- Recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion as tenets of our school mission statement and strategic plan, and desiring to be purposeful in planning curriculum which values and supports those tenets
- Ensuring supervision and safety of children at all times of the day including arrival, recess, lunchtime, and dismissal
- Assisting students with social/emotional learning support and guiding them to make good decisions with emphasis on treating all students with dignity and respect
- Planning and preparing materials for lessons and ensuring classroom spaces are safe, positive, attractive, and clean environments conducive to learning
- Maintaining professional relationships with all members of the school community
- Having excellent written and oral communication skills for frequent and high-level communication with families and other members of the school community
- Bringing an innovative spirit and having the vision and ability to enthusiastically drive a team, to plan creative and resourceful lessons, and to bring exciting new initiatives to the grade level are all highly desirable qualities.

Education and Experience:
A minimum of three years teaching experience is preferred.
BA/BS from an accredited college or university required, Masters Degree preferred.
