Background: The Capital Area School Development Association has been serving school districts in the Capital Region since 1949. Permanently chartered by the New York State Board of Regents as a Study Council, CASDA brings research to practice through a customized embedded professional learning approach. CASDA helps school districts improve operations, achieve efficiency, and facilitate effective professional learning. CASDA is a not-for-profit 501C3 organization with three full time staff that provides services to school districts by contracting with a cadre of independent consultants.
Position Title: Business Official
Reports To: Executive Director
General Statement of Duties: To plan, supervise, and manage the business and financial operations of the organization in an efficient, effective, and economical manner consistent with sound business practices.
Candidate Qualities and Skills:
Required:
- QuickBooks experience
- Experience with accounting practices
- Able to work on multi projects and tasks with deadlines with ease
- Advanced Excel experience to create tables
- Able to work with 1099 consultants, 1099 processing
- Experience with employee benefits and policies
- Experience with business insurance and business procedures
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public, employees, agency officials and surrounding departments
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with others and work with limited supervision
- Customer service oriented
- Flexible and adaptable personality
Preferred:
- CPA or accounting degree from accredited college
- Non profit operations experience
- Knowledge of modern business office and human resource practices
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Business Official is an at-will employee who will generally perform the duties that follow, and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director using significant independent judgment and discretion.
- Prepares reports for the Executive Committee and Executive Director as required.
- Prepares and files reports as required by local, state and federal agencies.
- Assists the Executive Director in the development and revision of policies, regulations and procedures as they relate to the business and financial operations and any other areas as determined by the Executive Director.
- Manages all budgetary, payroll, purchasing, investment, borrowing, and accounting operations. Responsible for the oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities.
- Assists the Executive Director with budget development and long-range financial planning and administers a budget timetable and control system.
- Reviews program revenue and expenditures on a periodic basis and assists the Executive Director in preparation of the final budget for approval by the Executive Committee.
- Develops and maintains a system of internal controls for all business functions.
- Serves as liaison to external auditors to ensure completion of the annual review/audit.
- Maintains all financial records for the organization.
- Evaluates and oversees all benefit and business insurance negotiations and administers the same.
- Serves as liaison with insurance agents and where appropriate notifies carriers of any claims, suits, verified complaints or other legal action against the organization.
- Completes monthly and year end general journal entries
- Prepares account reconciliations
- Completes, manages, and records accounts payable, accounts receivable, and all reporting pertaining to the above
- Tracking, collection and recording of revenues; monitoring daily receipts and bank activity
- Ensures all financial record systems are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
