Focuses on serving the maternal child health clinical areas and be a part of the team with the hospital's patient advocate and LEP specialist. Provides advocacy services to every Spanish-speaking patient at every visit. Provides services including interpreting, assessing needs, fulfilling those needs, referrals to CUNA if appropriate, follow-up, other referrals, and service evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, performs, and evaluates the activities of the CUNA program in collaboration with the LEP specialist and the Children's Home Society staff. Works collaboratively with Children's Home Society and CH Healthstart staff to determine and provide for the needs of the Latino patients in Maternal Child Health Department. Collaborates with Children's Home Society staff to provide links for Latino families with appropriate community resources.
  • Provides the Latino Healthstart patient with medical interpretation when needed for each phase of the medical process. Meets with all Spanish-speaking MCH patients at each visit to CH if necessary. Makes daily rounds on the inpatient MCH units to provide continuity of care for Latino patients who require admission to the hospital.
  • Collaborates with the LEP Specialist to insure that Latino community agencies have an awareness of services available at CH through the CUNA program. Participates actively in promoting the MCH services at CHS by assisting with marketing efforts geared toward the Latino community.
  • Collects pertinent data to the CUNA Program and participates in performance improvement initiatives when necessary.
  • Identifies specific needs and problems of patients and makes appropriate referrals. Ensures that appropriate insurance referrals have been completed for both the patient and her infant.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • one year or more related experience
  • Good Communication Skills, Computer Skills, Bilingual (English & Spanish)

  • Continuous physical demands include: Talk or Hear
  • Lifting Floor to Waist 15 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 10 lbs.
  • Sensory Requirements include: Accurate Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Color Discrimination, Minimal Depth Perception, Minimal Hearing
  • Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks Include the following: Bloodborne Pathogens , Chemical , Airborne Communicable Disease , Extreme Temperatures , Uneven Surfaces or Elevations , Extreme Noise Levels , Dust/Particulate Matter
