    Purpose: The Teacher Residency Program is an alternate route to certification program (in elementary education, special education or middle school mathematics) whose goal is attract and retain teachers of color. Resident candidates will be enrolled in rigorous coursework for 18 months and serve in a paid residency position in a mentor teacher’s classroom for the school year.

    Job Summary:
    This is a residency position leading to certification.
    This program requires residents to:

      Serve in a resident position under the guise of a mentor teacher for the academic school year in a classroom;
      Complete 14-18 months of coursework running 6 weeks each summer, Mon-Fri and 2 evenings per week during the school year; every other Friday during the school year
      Attend district and school-based professional development sessions
      Pass required certification exams (Foundations of Reading Test, Praxis II) and TRP Portfolio
      Commit to a classroom teaching position upon successful completion of the program and certification

    Teacher Resident - Year 1 Essential Job Functions

      Support daily functions of the mentor teachers classroom and duties including arrival, dismissal, lunch coverage, and recess as needed
      Provide instruction in core content areas under the direction of the mentor teacher
      Provide intervention programming and/or specialized instruction to small groups of students under the direction of the mentor teacher.
      Collect, track and enter student data
      Attend professional development opportunities
      Complete the TRP portfolio
      Collaborate with mentor teacher and other school staff
      Perform any other related duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

      Bachelor's degree required
      Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater*
      Demonstrate a commitment to diversity in the field of education
      Completion of one of the following:

        Praxis Core Mathematics, Reading and Writing tests
        SAT
        ACT
        GRE
      Have a working email address
      Successful Acceptance into CT-TRP

      Working Conditions and Time Commitment:

      14-18 Months of coursework June 2025 - December 2026
      Full time employment as a Resident August 2025 - June 2026
      Full time employment as a teacher serving under a Residency Educator Certificate (REC) beginning August 2026

      Skill in effective communication and collaboration with all members of the school community including families and colleagues
      Skill in identifying and building upon the unique talents and strengths of each student.
      Ability to use computers, network system and software applications as needed.
      Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
      Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
      Organization and time management skills.
      Ability to serve as a positive, professional role model for students.
      Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
      Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.
      Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

      Works in standard office, school building environments, and on buses or vans.
      Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
