The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is seeking a highly qualified and innovative individual to serve as a Youth Development Specialist in the Impact Academy’s POWER Pathway Program. The POWER Pathway is part of the Impact Academy serving the needs, interests, passions, and skills of disconnected high school-aged students in the areas of academics and workforce readiness. This is a 10 month position that will work directly with students in a school-based setting as well as in the community.

POWER Pathway Program Youth Development Specialist (Impact Academy High School)
The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is seeking a highly qualified and innovative individual to serve as a Youth Development Specialist in the Impact Academy’s POWER Pathway Program. The POWER Pathway is part of the Impact Academy serving the needs, interests, passions, and skills of disconnected high school-aged students in the areas of academics and workforce readiness. This is a 10 month position that will work directly with students in a school-based setting as well as in the community.
Our ideal candidate will be passionate about developing a student-centered high school program, and able to thrive in a work setting where innovative change and creativity are the norm. Candidates must desire to connect with students to support both their academic and personal growth, outside the walls of a traditional school setting. This Youth Development Specialist will support the SEL component of the program by identifying barriers and resources that will aim at building resilience and reducing risk factors.
Responsibilities include:
Track attendance and engagement with youth through daily check-ins as well as the following:
1. Home visits, 2. Job visits, 3. Employment/internship opportunities 4. Community visits as well as through text, telephone, social networking, and e-mail
Collaborate with program staff while holding primary responsibility to develop and maintain individual Student Support Plans in the following areas:
1. Personal 2. Post-Secondary 3. Academic
Support student completion of a Personal Portfolio as a Power Pathway Graduation requirement
Develop, plan, and lead group lessons with students in the following areas:
1. Healthy Habit Life Skills, 2. Workforce Readiness, 3. Social-Emotional Learning
Build and maintain a network of community partners to support planning, coordination, and implementation of community learning activities aligned with personal portfolio requirements and student goals and needs
Travel Requirements:
Candidate holds CT drivers license with/or willingness to obtain A-endorsement to transport students in CREC vehicles.
Ability to travel by foot, city bus, or other means to participate in field experiences in the community with students and staff; home visits to families as needed.
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Qualifications Profile:
Certification/License: Non-Certified
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field
Experience:
The qualified candidate should have experience working within a diverse high school.
Ability to communicate and develop positive relationships with youth
Experience with case management with an emphasis on students ages 17-20
Experience connecting students to community resources
