Job Description :

The Railroad Commission of Texas seeks a Customer Service / Oil and Gas Records Custodian to perform various complex duties in the Files area related to the processing, editing, quality control review, shipping, and receiving of various records related to the RRC.

Tasks could be related to multiple imaging projects of historical records or newly created documents and understanding of agency imaging programs and procedures to utilize initiative and independent judgment under general supervision.

Create, monitor, maintain, and use various activity logs and files related to record processing, imaging, and storage.

Access and utilize various applications and databases to process the documents of the various imaging projects.

Cross-trained to provide support to other activities and teams in Information Services.

Information Services maintains paper, microfilm, microfiche, and digital data encompassing the history of each Texas oil and natural gas well and other related documents. The Ongoing imaging program will image and index each record in this system to provide online digital access via the Internet.

Essential Job Duties :

  • Preserves historical information by preparing documents for imaging, including activity logs, files, and reports of activities related to imaging.
  • Utilizes online applications and databases to gather information to determine solutions to questions regarding the imaging of documents or the activity logs and files related to the imaging process.
  • Performs key entry work using an internet-based application.
  • Conducts quality assurance work on imaged documents.
  • Assist Commission staff and the general public with inquiries received in person, by phone, mail, and / or via the internet pertaining to information contained in the RRC digital data system, microfilm, and microfiche.
  • Assist the public at the agency receptionist desk as needed.
  • Assist the public at the Receptionist counter or Public Sales counter as needed.
  • Performs additional tasks, as assigned, to maintain workflow of Information Services.
  • Remarks :

    Work hours are 8 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM at RRC headquarters in Austin.

    Qualifications :

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :

    Knowledge of general office procedures.

    Knowledge of professional protocol.

    General Knowledge of the RRC's Record Retention Schedule.

    Skill in using Microsoft Office and other Windows-based PC software applications.

    Skill in word processing and mainframe terminal operation.

    Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

    Demonstrated skill in working on tasks requiring meticulous attention to detail and maintaining a high level of accuracy.

    Demonstrated ability to retrieve and analyze acquired information from hard files, microfilm and computer database.

    Ability to multitask and attend multiple simultaneous demands.

    Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

    Ability to visually discern colors and work with written materials.

    Ability to learn and understand oil and gas policy and procedures and interpret processes.

    Ability to accurately file, sort, alphabetize, organize, and distribute documents and retrieve files.

    Ability to operate copy machine, fax, and other general office equipment.

    Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

    Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 30 pounds

    Ability to stoop, reach low and high, push and pull heavy file drawers and / or cart.

    Ability to work around equipment generating heat, noise, and bright reflective lights.

    Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8AM - 5PM at RRC headquarters.

    Minimum Qualification :

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of professional office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • General knowledge of the Oil and Gas Division functions.
  • Familiarity with the required forms and imaging procedures.
  • Preferred Qualification :

  • Experience in the operation of various types of micrographics equipment.
  • Past participation in complex document imaging projects.
  • Work Hours and Telework : Standard office hours for Commission employees are 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our agency offers alternate schedules for employees, as long as it does not adversely affect operations and service levels, and standard hours of operation are maintained. The Commission may also offer telework based on the agency's approved Telework Plan. Alternate work schedules and telework may be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview process.
