Job Description
The Texas General Land Office is seeking a Staff Services Officer I (Oil Spill Office Assistant) within the Oil Spill Prevention and Response Department of the agency.
Performs routine (journey-level) staff services work. Work involves performing work in several staff services functions such as human resources, accounting, budgeting, purchasing, training, payroll, records management, and property management. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

What Your Contributions to the GLO Will be :
- Manages and maintains schedules and travel arrangements for the Deputy Director and Austin staff. Manages and maintains Outlook calendars for the Deputy Director and Oil Spill Conference room. Tracks action items for the Deputy Director and / or Austin staff.
- Performs technical support work by tracking expenditures, and processing procurement requisitions, invoices, and travel expenses. Assists in the compilation of budget and LBB reporting information regarding the administration of the Oil Spill office, including travel records, timekeeping, purchasing, and status of incidental reports.
- Provides support for the Scientific Support Coordinator for the Oil Spill Program's Research & Development program, including tracking and reviewing grantees' compliance with conditions of grants by monitoring and analyzing agreements, contracts, expenses, activities, and federal and state regulations.
- Maintains filing, record-keeping, and records management systems. Coordinates meetings, conferences, and seminars. Order office supplies and maintains office equipment.
- Prepares, edits, and distributes correspondence, reports, studies, forms, and documents related to the Oil Spill Prevention and Response program area. Responsible for minutes for all staff meetings as directed by the Deputy Director.

This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client / customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
