Caprock Academy is seeking a School Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year. Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, the School Counselor will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values of character, accountability and academics.
Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The school’s mission is to help all students achieve their highest academic and character potential using proven, accelerated academic programs while providing a safe environment. A school counselor at Caprock Academy works with students and staff members in order to ensure that all students meet their potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Through scheduled visits and classroom counseling lessons, all students are served in a way that challenges them and helps them to grow into global citizens that can think for and advocate for themselves. The school counselor assists the Special Education department as needed with observations and assessments of students to help determine what is needed to best help them to succeed.
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
WORK HOURS: 40 Hours per Week
PAY RANGE: Starting Salary $45,000 depending on experience and education
REPORTS TO: Head of School
Requirements:Essential Duties
- Ability to work with grades 7 to 12
- Short-term counseling with students using evidence-based practices
- Help students deal with a variety of issues (e.g. family, school, relationships)
- Support students with academic issues (e.g. organization, time management, study skills)
- Assist students and families to acquire community resources if necessary (e.g. food aid, counseling, financial, and housing resources)
- Work with students on plans regarding social emotional goals contained within those plans
- Help students learn communication, relational, and problem-solving skills
- Help students deal with big emotions in ways that are appropriate
- Collaborate with families/teachers/administrators regarding students issues as needed (for support, not discipline)
- Facilitate suicide awareness trainings/ curriculum
- Conduct suicide risk assessments
- Works closely with High School dean and students with discipline issues
- SEL classroom lessons and groups
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- Master’s degree in school counseling from a CACREP accredited school
- Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License with School Counseling endorsement
- Abides by and is affiliated with ASCA guidelines
- Thorough understanding of the Caprock family handbook and employee policies/procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with colleagues and team members
- Professional and personal integrity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to pass a background check
- CPR and First Aid certification training provided by Caprock
