Job Title: Building Coordinator (Student Position)

Reports To: Operations Coordinator 

Location: Lumina Communities at Duquesne University

Compensation: $11.50 per hour. Position not eligible for benefits 

Hours of Employment: Up to 20 hours per week. First possible date of employment is May 1, 2025

FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt


Summary 

The primary responsibility of the Student Building Coordinator is to provide support for two apartment complexes (Brottier Hall and St. Martin Hall, and soon Forbes Ave Hall) serving over 1,000 upper-class and graduate students at Duquesne University. The ideal candidate for this position is enthusiastic, has great attention to detail, can work independently, and possesses a strong work ethic. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Oversees office supply management by taking inventory and restocking supplies as needed.
  • Assists with front desk office management and monthly audits.
  • Oversees building décor supplies by taking inventory, installing & uninstalling decorations on a seasonally/monthly basis.
  • Coordinates make ready closets to ensure supplies are on hand when needed.
  • Completes daily inspection of common area furniture and amenities spaces making sure common area furniture is not damaged and amenity spaces are cleaned and maintained.
  • Assists with parking garage checks to ensure residents are parked in correct spaces and have parking tags.
  • Complete daily inspection of common areas for decorating, ensuring lobby bathrooms are clean and restocked with supplies and amenity areas are cleaned and maintained. 
  • Assists the office/management team with administrative support including regular building walkthroughs.
  • Attending all required meetings and trainings pertaining to the maintenance and front desk operations.
  • Other duties & projects as assigned include assisting with mail audits & return to sender inventory, c-storage organization/inventory, move-in & move out. 

 

Time Commitment 

Building Coordinators can work up to 25 hours per week in part-time student work. Office hours are Monday–Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Student desk hours will include evening and weekend hours between 8:00 am – 12:00 am. In addition, work will be available during academic breaks and nights/weekends. Building Coordinators may need to return early or leave late from breaks in order to complete training.

  • Obtain high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.  All must be accomplished in English
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Have knowledge and ability operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment including photocopier, fax, and telephone.  Basic typing and filing skills. Ability to operate basic tools including ladder, screwdriver, wrench. Preference will be given to current Duquesne University students and/or residents of residents of Brottier,St. Martin, and McGinley Hall.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.   

Work Environment  

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is mid-to high-paced.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  There will be construction occurring within communities. It is imperative that the candidate has a certain degree of flexibility in their work routine and can withstand distractions.
